Michel Andrew of Sheshatshiu, Labrador, spent five weeks in the Labrador wilderness walking to raise awareness around diabetes...
Known as Giant, his 300 kilometre walk through Sheshatshiu to Natuashish began with a dream involving his grandfather, who was known to help others. In his dream he was walking with his grandfather, breaking trails for others, and he knew that his dream had a message.

Jeffrey Belben of Forteau, Labrador, attends International Youth Advisory Congress...
Jeffery is a sixteen-year-old youth who has the ability to combine academics with sports, business, the Junior Canadian Rangers, and community. involvement in youth matters on both a local, national and international level.  Jeffrey was one of only twenty youth from Canada and one of 150 from all over the world to attend the first International Youth Advisory Congress on Online Safety and Security in London, England.

Northern Lights Trade Show a Huge Success...
Northern Lights Trade Show was held in Ottawa, Ontario from January 31 - February 3, 2008 and showcased the exciting business and resource opportunities in Labrador, Nunavut, Nunavik and Nanatsiavit.  There were over 500 delegates in attendance (including MHA Yvonne Jones) and featured a multi-industry trades show with over 141 exhibitors, including a wide range of organizations, private businesses and all levels of government from Nunavut, Nunavik, Labrador and Nunatsiavit.

Congratulations to Garreth Kippenhuck of Battle Harbour...
who received the Overall Award in the 2008 Heritage Day Poster Contest on February 18, 2008.  Garreth's poster was chosen from over 300 submissions, from 30 schools across the province.  His winning poster was entitled "Battle Harbour" and depicted a beautiful painting of the harbour.

who were members of a group of 27 students from across Canada that participated in the Global Vision Junior Team.  They traveled on an economic trade mission promoting Canadian business interests in Southeast Asia and over two weeks visited the countries of Singapore, Malaysia and Vietnam.

Congratulations to Wayne Russell of William's Harbour...
on being presented the Medal of Bravery Award by the governor General Michaelle Jean.  The ceremony took place at Rideau Hall in Ottawa on February 29, 2008.  On January 2, 2007, Wayne Russell was traveling with some family members across the ice along the south coast of Labrador when two of the snowmobiles broke through he ice and one of the drivers, Trevor Larkham, fell into the water.  Mr. Russell, without thought for his own life, made his way across the ice with a rope and pulled his friend to safety.
