Opposition Leader Yvonne Jones will be meeting with
various groups, municipal councils, unions and concerned citizens in Happy
Valley-Goose Bay and Labrador West from Monday, January 26th to
Friday, January 30th.
“I am looking forward to meeting with unions,
women’s groups, municipal councils and concerned citizens currently
experiencing difficulties in these two regions of Labrador,” said Ms.
Jones. “The current labour situation with Serco and downturn in the
mining operations in western Labrador are certainly issues that I look
forward to discussing with union and company representatives. There are
also great concerns related health care, infrastructure, and social
services that the people of Labrador need to have addressed and I will be
attending the pre-budget consultations in Happy Valley-Goose Bay on Monday
night to hear those concerns first-hand. I believe these discussions will
be very valuable and provide the Official Opposition with further
information to effectively challenge government on these important
issues.”
Ms. Jones noted that she will be visiting other areas
of the province in the near future to hold similar meetings, including
central Newfoundland where the region is preparing for the closure of the
Grand Falls-Windsor paper mill.
