Jones pleased with announcement for addictions and
mental health centres for youth

Today’s announcement that government will be funding new treatment facilities for youth with addiction and mental health issues is a positive step forward and finally a recognition by government that problems exist in the treatment system for young people in the province, says Opposition Leader Yvonne Jones.

“We, and the parents of affected children, have been calling for the establishment of treatment centres for youth with addictions and mental illness and I am pleased government has finally given some indication that they are going to act,” said Ms. Jones. “The recent experiences on both these issues have proven that gaps exist and young people are falling through the cracks of the system.

“I look forward to seeing the design plans, service options and timeframes associated with the establishment of these facilities. Now that government has indicated its intention, I encourage them to move quickly on addressing these needs. The sooner we have these improved facilities in our province, the better it will be for young people dealing with these challenges.”
