Jones to meet with Vale Inco strikers in Happy
Valley-Goose Bay
Opposition Leader Yvonne Jones will be in Happy
Valley-Goose Bay today to meet with Vale Inco union representatives
regarding the strike at the Voisey’s Bay site. Jones will meet with
union officials at 10am to discuss the current impasse with the company
and visit the picket line to discuss issues directly with striking
employees at 11am.
“I am visiting these employees today to demonstrate
my support for their cause and encourage the company to settle this
dispute in a timely manner,” said Ms. Jones. “These employees are hard
working, dedicated individuals who have built and grown the Voisey’s Bay
mine site to the mega project it is today. They deserve respect from their
employer and I encourage Vale Inco to get back to the table and resolve
this dispute as soon as possible.”
Over 200 Voisey’s Bay workers have been on strike
since August 1st and have been without a collective agreement
since March.
